Advanced Obedience Class
AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification Class.
Advanced Obedience Class is designed for dogs that have been through prior training with Good Citizen Canine or another "reputable" group and already has a dependable level of skill. Dogs and owners who have not been through prior training with Good Citizen Canine will be evaluated prior to enrollment for Advanced Obedience. This class is designed, almost exclusively, to be able to take and pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification.
The AKC certification is a 10-point program that can be viewed in greater detail on-line at www.akc.org. The Advanced Obedience class is fairly structured and expands on prior skills developed in Good Citizen Canine or other training classes. The class spends a great deal of time working on developing extensive attention and focus on maintaining traditional basic obedience postures of "sit, down, stay, come" and so on, as well as behavior in public and with other dogs, people and distractions. This is achieved through creative exercises done in a fun and enjoyable setting. Dogs that pass through this level will be eligible to be evaluated for the AKC certification. Deborah is an approved evalutator and will administer the test privately once the course has been completed.
A "one-time private" 1-hour session or a set of 3 private sessions is also available and is, generally, best if done before the class begins to help you gain additional control. Many dog owners really enjoy the one-on-one, hands-on training session to get a better handle on the behaviors that are most challenging for their particular pet dog. A private session done in advance of group classes will help you develop your handling skills and be more effectively in the classroom situation. Please contact Deborah Rosen at (253) 752-6878 if you are interested in scheduling this type of session in conjunction with the upcoming group class. A discount is given on the private session for those also signing up for a group class.
